Chapter 1

First Day Of School

 

Hi! My name is Katie! I just moved to Build-A-Bearville to a town called Bear Boulevard. My dad just got transferred here. I really miss my friends, but I always keep in touch with them every day. I was kind of popular at my old school, but all of that is gone. I hope I can make friends at my new school, Bear University.

I woke up at six o’clock to get ready for school. My mom told me to always get ready at six. “Ughh, first day of school. One of the worst days of a girls’ life.” I said. “Now, what should I wear?” I looked at my blue top and jeans. I thought it was too boring. Then, I looked at my pink top and jean skirt. I thought it was kind of too “girly”. Then, I picked up my butterfly jeans and purple sparkle top. I thought it was so cute. So, I wore it. My phone started playing Sneaker Night by Vanessa Hudgens. It was a text message from my best friend, Michelle. She said, “hey katie! what’s up? are you ready for school yet?” I answered, “hey michelle! yeah. i hope i can make a lot of friends at bear university, or i can just be friendless.” I walked to the kitchen and I saw my mom about to make breakfast. “Good morning Katie! What do you want for breakfast?,” said my mom. “Ahh…. I’ll just have a apple,” I said.

“Are you sure Katie?”

“Yeah, I’m sure.”

I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth and brushed my hair. I went to my room and got my bookbag. “I’m going to the bus stop now. Bye Mom! Bye Dad!” I said as I walked out the door. “Ok, where is the bus stop for Bus #9?” I saw some kids at a stop sign. “Maybe they can help me.” I asked this girl with a sparkle shirt and sparkle jeans. “Hello! Is this the bus stop for Bus #9?” I said. “Uhh…. yeah.” said the girl.

“Hi! I’m Katie! I’m new to Bear Univeristy. Want to be friends?”

“Look, I’m the most popular girl in school. I don’t make friends with newbies, except if there cool. By the way, I’m Allyson.”

“Oh, you’re the “popular” type. What! I can be cool! I was kind of popular at my old school.”

“Well, I’m “really” popular. And “kind of” popular people are not cool. Also, I don’t talk to newbies.”

“Fine.” I was almost in tears. But I didn’t want anyone to see my cry like a baby, esspecially Allyson. I saw the bus coming. “Ok, here I go.” I walked up to the bus. “Ahh, you must be Katie! Welcome to Bus #9 of Bear Univeristy.” the bus driver said. “Yes, hello. It’s nice to meet you.” I said. “It’s nice to meet you, too!” said the bus driver. I was walking down the isle, looking at people. They were talking about me. “Who is that girl?” “Is she new or something?” “She’s a quiet, shy, nerdy newbie,” I heard Allyson say to her friend. I sat in a seat by myself. I started reading Twilight. I was still on Chapter 1. When the bus stopped, I quickly put back my Twilight book in my bookbag. “Ok Katie, you can do this,” I said. I walked into the school. I saw a lot of people. “Ok, my locker number is 246.” I looked at all the numbers and finally saw 246. I saw this guy next to my school. He was talking to Allyson. “See you after class.” said Allyson. “Um, hi. I’m Katie. I’m new here.” I said to the guy. “Hey. I’m Shane. It’s nice to meet you.” said Shane. “Yeah, it’s nice to meet you too.” I said as I looked and put my stuff into my locker. I put pictures of my BFFs back at my old school and I in my locker. The bell rang for homeroom. “Well, I’ll see you later.” said Shane. “Uhh, yeah. See you later.” I said. I was looking all over the school for my homeroom. After two minutes, I finally found it. My homeroom teacher’s name is Ms. Lays. “Hello! You must be Katie, the new girl.” said Ms. Lays. “Yes, I am.” I said. “Class, we have a new student who would be joining us. Her name is Katie.” said Ms. Lays. “Hi everyone,” I said with a little fake smile, waving a little.” No one answered. I saw that Shane and Allyson were in my class. Shane was smiling, but Allyson just rolled her eyes. “You sit right next to Allyson over there,” said Ms. Lays. “What?!” said Allyson. “I mean…. Hooray!” said Allyson in a quieter way. Ms. Lays handed me a reading book, spelling workbook, and a cursive workbook. I walked down to my desk. Shane’s desk was right in front of mine desk. I sat by the window and pencil shapener. Allyson walked by my desk and handed me a note. This is what I said.

Stay out of my stuff, never ask me anything, and never talk to me. And if you’re really smart, I have to copy off you’re paper because I don’t like doing work and I’m getting B’s in everything. ~Allyson

I was shocked about the last part. I’m never letting her copy off my paper and getting the credit. So, I continued working. When the bell rung. I took my books and went to Ms. Lays’ desk. “Ms. Lays, Allyson gave me this note.” I said as I handed her the note. “I’ll take care of this.” said Ms. Lays. “Thank you.” I said as I walked out the door.

Chapter 2

The New Diary

I was at my locker where I saw Shane talking to his friends. The bell rung for lunch. Today, we were having spagetti. It looked so good. I was trying to find a seat. “Where can I sit?,” I thought. I saw a chair next to Shane. I slowly walked up to him. “Um, hey Shane.” I said. “Oh, hey Katie,” said Shane.

“Um, can I sit here?”

“Sure!”

It was so nice of him to let me sit next to him. I felt something vibrating. My phone was still on. So, I quickly turned off. But when I looked up, Allyson took my seat. “Um, Allyson. I was going to sit there. Shane said I could,” I said. “Well too bad. Go sit at the table with no one there and you’ll make lots of friends,” Allyson said sacasticly. So, I just walked slowly to the table Allyson told me to sit at. Shane looked so angry at Allyson. I was at a table alone, crying. “I’ll never make friends now,” I said to myself.

I sat by myself on the bus again. Allyson walked by me, laughing. “Hey Katie. Want to go to the mall together? I think you need more fashionable stuff,” Allyson said laughing as she walked away. I just looked away. I was finishing reading my Twilight book. When the bus stopped at my bus stop, I got off the bus crying. Allyson saw me crying. “Oh, stop it you big cry baby. No wonder you’ll never get friends. You always  cry,” Allyson said. “Just leave me alone Allyson,” I said walking to my house. I ran into my room crying. “I hate this school! I wish we never moved,” I said. But then, I saw something on my bed. It was a diary. It was pink and had sparkles on it. I saw a necklace came with it. It had hearts and stars on it. I saw a note on it. It said:

Dear Katie,

I went to the store today and I saw this diary that I thought you might like. I hope you can use it every day.

It looked like a cool diary. I put it aside on my nightstand. After I did my homework, I quickly got on my computer so I could talk to my friends. My friends, Drew, Niki, Michelle, and Cameryn were online. I told them about my day. They felt very bad for me. ”Katie! Time for dinner,” my mom said. I told them I had to go eat dinner and told them goodbye. Today, we had vegetables. “So, how was school,” said my mom. “Today, I made 3 friends,” said my older sister, Vanessa. Vanessa is in high school in her second year. “That’s very good! How many friend did you make Katie,” asked my mom. “Um, none,” I said sadly. “Allyson, who is three houses away from us, she is so mean! She didn’t want to be my friend, she told me that I have to let her copy off my work because she doesn’t want to think, she stole the seat I was going to sit at at lunch, and she said my fashion taste is horriable,” I added. “It’s ok sweetie,” my mom said. “It takes time to make friends,” she added. “And she called me a cry baby and she said I’ll never make friends because I always cry.” I said. “Don’t listen to her. She’s just jealous that you’re new and she’s afraid that you’ll become more popular then her, so she’s trying to say those mean stuff so no one will be your friend,” said Vanessa. “And she’s wrong. Her idea will never work,” my dad added. “You’re not listening! Whatever she says is true! It’s always true,” I said as I ran to my room crying. I put on my pajamas and went to bed. “Katie, are you ok?” said Vanessa outside my room. “I’m fine! I need some sleep,” I said. I heard Vanessa walking back to her room.

The next day, the principal gave me a paper saying what activites I can sign up for. I chose to sign up for cheerleading and volleyball. The principal said I go to cheerleading Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. So today, I’m in volleyball for free period.

When I got there, I couldn’t believe it. Allyson was in volleyball. I felt like going away, but I had to stay. After three minutes, we started playing. On another side of the gym, the boys were playing basketball. I saw that Shane played basketball. “Ok, girls! It’s time to play,” said Allyson. All of Allyson’s friends were on her team. The “leftover girls,” including me, were on another team. Allyson served the ball. I didn’t get a chance to hit the ball at all, until I hit the ball on the ground on Allyson’s team. “Oh, it’s on Katie,” said Allyson. “Bring it,” I said. All the other girls sat on the bleachers to watch us. Allyson served the ball. I backed up to hit the ball. We were playing against each other for 5 minutes. I got really tired, but I never gave up. But for a minute, I felt like giving up, but I didn’t pay attention to the ball. Allyson hit the ball so hard on my head, I callasped. And after a minute, I fainted.

Chapter 3

The Weird Experience

“Look, she’s opening her eyes,” said Shane smiling as I was opening my eyes. “Whoa, what happened,” I said. I saw that Shanes towel was on my head. “You fainted. Let’s get you to the nurse to see if you’re ok,” said Shane as he reached out his hand to help me up. I took his hand and he pulled me up. We walked to the nurse’s office, but we were really quiet.

At lunch, I sat at the same empty table as yesterday. “Shane! Come sit here,” said Allyson. “I’m going to sit next to Katie,” said Shane as he walked away. “What!” said Allyson with a really angry face. “She is going to get it. I hope she has a horrable year here at Bear University and never comes here again. Then we will live happily ever after,” said Allyson as she smiled evily. I saw Shane come up to my table. “Hey Katie. Can I sit here,” asked Shane. “Oh, hey. Sure,” I said will a little smile.

“That was some fall you had today.”

“Oh, yeah. I was surprised at myself.”

“You feeling better yet?”

“Yeah. The nurse gave me a ice pack to put on my head as I layed down on a little bed they had for me.”

“Well, I’m glad you’re better. Um, can I have your phone number?”

“Sure!”

Shane? Am I really dreaming? Shane, the most popular guy in the school, asking for my phone number? I wrote down my phone number on a piece of notebook paper and Shane wrote down his number. We both gave each other our numbers at the same time. “Can’t wait to call you,” said Shane. “Me too,” I said will a smile. “So, now we’re friends, right,” I asked. “Yeah,” said Shane. “Oh, I ride your bus, but you’ve never seen me. I’ll save you a seat,” said Shane with a smile. “Oh, thanks,” I said. “I have a dentist appointment at 3:00 so I won’t be on the bus today,” Shane added. “Oh, ok.” I said.

“I’m home!” I said. I saw Vanessa in the living room watching TV. ”Did you make any friends,” Vanessa asked. “Yeah, it’s a boy named Shane. I got his phone number today. Speaking of that, I have to add him on my cell phone,” I said as I ran to my room. “That’s cool,” said Vanessa making sure I heard her. When I finished my homework, I got on the computer to talk to my friends. Michelle and Niki were online. “Hey Katie!” said Michelle and Niki at the same time. “Did you make any friends,” Niki asked. “Yes, a boy named Shane,” I said.

“That’s cool! Did you get his phone number,” asked Michelle.

“At lunch!” I said.

“BRB, I have to add his number on my cell phone.”

I was so excited to add Shane’s number to my cell phone. Michelle, Niki and I talked about for at least two hours. Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Shane! “Guys! Shane is on the phone! BRB,” I told my friends. I quickly answered the phone. “Hello,” I said. “Hey Katie! It’s Shane! Just added you to my contacts,” Shane said.

“So, what’s up?”

“Not much. I just had chicken for dinner.”

“That’s sound good!”

“Listen, my grade for math is kind of dropping, and the test is next Tuesday. Um, can I come over your house so you can help me study?”

I stood in silence. “Hold on Shane,” I said. I placed down my phone. I screamed and jumpped around all over my room. I quickly ran up to my mom. “Mom, today I made a friend named Shane. He said that his grade for math is kind of dropping and the test is next Tuesday. He asked can he come over,” I said. “Sure, sweetie! I’m glad you made a friend,” said my mom. “Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you so much mom!” I said as I hugged my mom. I quickly ran back to my room to talk to Shane again. “My mom said you can come! What day and time,” I asked. “Saturday, 5pm?” asked Shane. “Sounds great!” I said. “Well, see you then!” said Shane. “Yeah, see ya!” I said as I hung up the phone. I quickly ran back to the computer to tell my friends. “Guys, Shane is coming over to my house so I can help him study for the math test!” I said.

“OMG! That’s awesome!” said Niki.

“Katie! Dinner time!” said my mom. “I have to go eat dinner now. I’ll tell you more about it later,” I said. We all said goodbye. I was so excited for Shane to come over!

Chapter 4

Getting Ready For A Day To Remember

I was getting on the bus with a smile. I went to see if Shane was on the bus. “Katie!” said Shane. Shane was in the back of the bus. “Hey Shane!” I said. “This is my friend Cameryn,” said Shane. “Hello! It’s nice to meet you,” said Cameryn. “Hello! You too. We’ll make great freinds!” I said. We started exchanging phoone numbers. “Oh Shane, my mom and dad has to go somewhere on Saturday, so my mom is going to make some snacks for us sitting on my kitchen table,” I said walking off the bus. “Oh. By the way, I can’t wait until Saturday,” said Shane. “Me too,” I said. I saw one of Allyson’s friends talking to another friend of Allyson. Their names were Mickayla and Angie. “We’ve got to tell Allyson what’s happening to Shane and Katie,” said Angie. Mickayla and Angie ran into the school.

“He what!” said Allyson furiously. “Yeah. Shane is going over to Katie’s house so Katie can help him study for the math test on Tuesday,” said Mickayla. “We heard it on the bus,” said Angie. ”Ok girls. Time for our plan,” said Allyson. “What plan,” asked Mickayla.”  “Our plan to make sure Katie has a horrible year here,” said Allyson smiling evily.

Today for lunch was vegtables. I was walking up to a table where Shane and Cameryn. Allyson saw me walking up to Shane. “Ok, part one of our plan,” Allyson said smiling. She walked up to me. “Hi Katie,” said Allyson. She spilled her lunch all over me. “Oops. That’s what you get for hanging out with people that are popular. And you’re not popular!” said Allyson. “That was on purpose,” I said as I was mad. “So,” said Allyson. She took a bucket of salad dressing and poured it on my head, just as the principal came back. “Allyson! My office! Now!” said the principal. Allyson walked to the principal’s office as she was really mad. I got a wet towel to get off all the food and salad dressing off me. “Why would Allyson do that to you,” asked Shane. I don’t really want to talk about it.

I woke up the Saturday morning. “Finally! It’s Saturday!” I sad as I jumpped out of my bed. “Good morning Katie,” my mom as I walked in the the kitchen. “Hi mom. Where’s dad?” I said. “He’s still sleep. I’m going to make your snacks at 3pm. Vanessa is going to be here to make the stuff that had to be on the stove or in the oven. “Ok,” I said.

“Now, what should I wear,” I said looking through my closet. “I think I’m going to wear… this,” I said as I held up my pink spring shirt and my sparkly jean skirt. Then, I looked at my diary that was on my night stand. “Hmm, maybe I should write in it,” I said. This is what I wrote:

Saturday February 8th, 2009

Dear Diary,

I haven’t written in this diary for a while, but this is my first time writing in it! My name is Katie. I go to Bear University. There is this mean girl named Allyson, and a nice guy named Shane. Speaking of Shane, he’s coming over to my house for the first time ever! I’m going to help him study for the math test on Tuesday. I really hope this goes out well, because if it doesn’t, my whole life is ruined. Wish me luck!

It was 3:00pm right now. I’ve been chatting with my friends on the computer all day. My mom and dad said goodbye to me and Vanessa. Then, I continued chatting with my friends again.

Chapter 5

The Day To Remember

When six minutes after 5:00 passed, the doorbell rang. “I’ll get it!” I said. It was Shane. “Hi Shane.” I said as I opened the door. “Hey.” he said. “Come in.” I said as I went to the side of the door to let him in. “This is a nice house,” he said. “Oh, thanks,” I said with a smiled as I closed the door. “This is my older sister, Vanessa,” I said. Vanessa was on the couch reading Breaking Dawn of the Twilight Series. “Hello,” Shane said with a little wave. “Oh, hello,” said Vanessa with a smile. “Let’s get studing,” I said. Shane was looking around to see my room. “Ok,” he said as he held my hand and led me to my room. I could tell he was really excited for me to help him study. “Wow,” he said as he walked in my room. “Your room is pretty big,” he added. “Thanks,” I said as I walked up to him. I walked up to my bed and got out my books. “Peppermint?” I asked Shane as I held up a bag of peppermints. “Sure! I love peppermints,” he said.

Two and a half hours have passed by and we were on a last problem to practice. I gave Shane a division problem. He was writing down his work. I could tell he was really thinking. “Is this right?” he asked me as he gave me his paper. “That’s right,” I said as I smiled and gave him back his paper. “You’re ready,” I added as I continued to smile. I heard Vanessa going into her room. “I’ll be right back,” I said to Shane as I walked out of my room. “Ok,” he said. I went into Vanessa’s room. “What are you doing?” I asked her. “I’m about to get on the computer,” she said. “Ok,” I said. I walked back into my room and saw Shane looking at a picture of me riding a horse when I was little. I knocked on the door to get his attention and smiled. Shane jumped a little. “Oh, sorry,” he said. “It’s ok,” I said. “So, want to watch TV,” Shane asked. “Ok,” I said.

We were watching a lot of funny things on TV. We were laughing so hard, our faces were red like cherries. We had to drink water to calm us down. “Listen, the Valentine’s Day Dance is on Friday, and I need to learn how to dance,” he said. “Like, maybe The Waltz?” He added. “I took dancing lessons for The Waltz a few years ago,” I said with a smile. I took my music player and CD. “Let’s go,” I said to Shane, smiling. “Where are we going?” He said as he chuckled a little.

We walked up the stairs to The Roof Top. I was so excited to teach Shane how to dance. When we got up there, I placed down the music player and CD. “Ok. One thing I learned from my class is that if you dance to a song with words, singing the words may help you understand what your dancing to or the message of the song.” I said. “That’s good advice,” Shane said. “Have you ever seen High School Musical 3?” I asked. “I’ve seen it like fifty times,” he said with excitment. I turned on the song, Can I Have This Dance. “This is the perfect song to dance to,” I suggested. Shane looked like he agreed with me. I started singing along with the song. After I sang, Shane sang. We started dancing like in the movie. It felt like a fairy tale. I felt like I never wanted to stop dancing. After a while, it started to rain. Shane and I came in shock, but continued to dance. After the music stopped, I felt really happy. “Do you think I’m good?” Shane asked. “You’re great,” I said smiling. We ran back into the house quickly. I heard a car just as we went back in the house. It was Shane’s mom. “It was nice coming over,” he said as he got his backpack. “Thanks. See you at school on Monday,” I said smiling and waving. “Bye,” he said smiling and waving back. As he walked out the door, I looked out the window. I waved goodbye. He waved goodbye to me. I went to get a towel to dry my wet hair. “Did Shane leave?” Vanessa asked as I passed her room. “Yeah,” I answered. “How was it?” She asked me as I went into her room. “It was good,” I said. “I guess you have a best friend now,” said Vanessa winking at me. I winked at her back and left.

Chapter 6

Shane? My crush?!

It was Sunday morning, and I was still filled with joy after yesterday. But it still had me wondering why the most popular guy in school want to hang out with me. I looked over at my nightstand and looked at my diary. This called for a entry of a lifetime.

Sunday, February 9th, 2009

Dear Diary,
Yesterday was so amazing! I got to tutor Shane in math, we watched TV together and laughed like crazy, and the best thing of all, I got to dance with him! It’s almost as if.. I might have a crush on him. Wait, wait, wait, I promised myself when I moved here, I would not get to serious about a crush before I get to know him more. Well, we’ll see how it goes.

Katie

Just as I set my diary on my nightstand, my mom came into my room. “Sweetie, can you water the plants in front of the house for me?” “Sure,” I answered. I got out of my bed and went into the garage to find the watering can. The garage was so dark, I could barely see anything at all. I kneeled down to find the watering can by the garden stuff. “Katie! The watering can is on the shelf above the garden tools!” Startled by my mom’s voice, I hit my head on the shelf my mom was talking about. Ouch! I got the watering can and opened the garage door. While rubbing my hand on my head, I walked out of the garage. Well that was just great, I thought.

When I came outside, I heard Allyson giggling with Mickayla and Angie. I just looked at them for a second, and continued to walk to the plants. Just as I did that, I heard Allyson’s voice. “Hey Katie! Why are you rubbing your head? You lost your brain and you’re trying to find it?” Allyson, Angie, and Mickayla all started laughing. I looked back with a bored face ready to make my comeback. “No, I’m just thinking about when you will ever find yours.” I gave her a well-that’s-just-the-way-it-is face and continued to water the plants. All of them looked in shock, then Allyson just walked away looking really mad. That was awesome.

“Allyson, you can’t let newbies get to you,” Mickayla said. All of them went up to her room after I made Allyson mad. “Yeah, popular girls never let newbies get to them. Get your head in the game, Allyson,” Angie said. “Guys! Katie is not like any other newbie. I usually have newbies miserable for the whole year starting on their first day, but Katie is starting to like it here!” Allyson sounded mad and worried at the same time. It’s pretty obvious you know how that sounds. Just then, Allyson got her evil-idea face. “I know that face,” Angie said. “Guys,” Allyson started. “Doesn’t Katie have a crush on Shane?” Angie and Mickayla looked at each other with confused faces. “Well, who knows,” Mickayla answered. “Well,” Allyson said as she walked to the other side of her room by Mickayla and Angie. “We can’t let Katie be Shane’s girlfriend, now can we?” “Not at all,” Mickayla and Angie said together. “Well, I have the perfect plan to make Katie’s life miserable, starting off tomorrow, and the big finale at the Valentine’s Day Dance,” Allyson said. Angie and Mickayla smiled. “Now that’s the Allyson we know and love,” said Mickayla.

On Monday morning, I walked to the bus stop and saw Allyson. Oh great, I thought. “Oh, hey Katie!” She sounded happy to see me. Something was going on. I know it.
